The Maitake is a medicinal mushroom that has been prized in Japan and China for centuries. Its German name, “Klapperschwamm” (literally “rattle fungus”), almost certainly stems from its growth habit. It is also known by the names *Grifola frondosa*, “Laubporling” (leaf polypore), and “Spatelhütiger Porling” (spatula-capped polypore). In Asia, the Maitake has long been considered a true delicacy. The mushroom was first mentioned in writing in an 11th-century Japanese fable. The term “Maitake” translates to “dancing mushroom.” According to legend, nuns who had lost their way in a forest discovered the Maitake—while on the verge of starvation—and used it for food. After consuming the mushroom, the nuns are said to have danced exuberantly with woodcutters who had arrived on the scene, rejoicing at their good fortune.

Breeding requires a great deal of experience.

The Maitake, a member of the *Meripilaceae* family, features beautiful fruiting bodies ranging in color from brown to a glossy grayish hue. Growing in clusters that resemble a bouquet of flowers, the fruiting bodies are soft with a meaty texture. Many connoisseurs consider the Maitake to be the most flavorful of all edible mushrooms. Cultivating this mushroom is extremely challenging; we are able to grow it in sufficient quantities only thanks to decades of experience and continuous process improvements. Like other varieties, the Maitake is grown on a specially formulated organic wood substrate. The cultivation process requires constant monitoring and the ability to react quickly, which is why this mushroom is cultivated exclusively by our most experienced staff members.

Production:
Cultivation and processing into mushroom powder capsules take place entirely and exclusively at our facility in Limeshain, Germany. The mature, freshly harvested mushroom is immediately dried gently, ground into powder using a water-cooled mill, and filled into HPMC capsules. May contain traces of millet.

Recommended intake:
Take 1 Maitake capsule 3 times daily with meals and plenty of liquid.
Store the product in a sealed container, protected from light, and out of the reach of small children. Protect from heat and store in a dry place. As a general rule, consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
